There Always, Something Sings

Lawrence Academy alumnus Charlie Smigelski ’67 has a new book available.
A nutritionist, Smigelski takes a functional medicine approach that stresses repair of the cell systems behind ailments.
The book synopsis reads:
After age 50 there are physiologic changes that increase nutrient needs. Cellular repair is slower, so wear and tear on muscles lingers; antioxidants are needed in larger quantity. The immune system also responds a bit more slowly to viruses and germs, generating more free radicals and inflammation. Knowing how to nourish the glutathione antioxidant enzyme improves the pace of body repair. Even liver and kidney functions can be improved.Reversing subtle or marginal nutrient deficiencies can improve general vitality and sense of wellbeing. Added nutrition means you recover from skiing, swimming, cycling, and hockey adventures better. Taking extra vitamin and other supplements can help you manage high blood pressure and high cholesterol without medications. Intelligent use of supplements can help manage conditions like acid reflux, neuropathy, arthritis and diabetes when drugs are only partially effective, or have unwanted side effects. I want you to examine your concept of the usual physical declines with aging. Use this book to develop new ideas and abilities for repairing yourself in your AARP membership decades.
