Art Opening At Lawrence Academy: Angela Alés, Societas, In Conant Gallery January 10, 6:00 PM

Angela Alés

Angela Alés is an artist born in Barranquilla, Colombia, of Andalusian and Lebanese descent. Alés moved to the United States in 1984 and graduated from Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, in New York City. She received her MFA from Miami International University of Art and Design. She has participated in over 30 collective and individual exhibitions in the US and Central and South America. Her work can be found in private collections throughout the Americas and Europe.

About the exhibition:

The exhibition Societas is a combination of two series Alés has been working on for the last two years. The “Immigration” series depicts the humanity of the immigrant, their emotional struggles and mental strength required to uproot oneself from the familiar, all that is loved and cherished, to confront the fear of the unknown and the unwelcome. The series “Monologues” captures the emotions and inner thoughts of individual archetypes. It is about seeing the inner truth when one looks in the mirror. Alés offers a window and invites the viewer to a few minutes of introspection.
