Last weekend, with 11 points, the girls of the Lawrence Academy wrestling squad placed third among 39 teams at the 7th Annual Phillips Girls Wrestling tournament.
On Sunday, January 26, Andover reported:

74 wrestlers from 39 different schools competed today at the 7th annual Phillips Academy Girls Wrestling tournament. The tournament started with a clinic with 2x Olympian and World Champion Elena Pirozhkova. We had 19 different weight classes that were competed in a round-robin style. Northfield Mount Hermon walked away with the team title for the second year in a row, with 19 team points. Middlesex, Hope High School, and Hotchkiss all tied for second with 13 team points, followed up by Lawrence Academy with 11 team points. Skylah Chakouian was crowned the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
Meanwhile, sophomores Karoline Hartner and Emily Moran earned a third place finish in her weight class; Charlotte Lokere ’23 and Raquel Berrocal de Castro ’21 each took second.
“While I am immensely proud of them, I am not surprised. Their accountability and work ethic are direct catalysts to their performance,” said Head Coach Jonny Mangini about the girls’ success this season.
“The girls, like all our wrestlers, are as tough as they are coachable. This recipe has made for an exhilarating season, and excites us for the future of this program.”

For those who don’t know, Coach Mangini is an alumnus of Lawrence Academy, Class of 2014. And it’s clear he is happy to be back on campus and coach the team on which he used to compete.
“It’s a rush,” said Mangini. “I love the sport, and to be leading the program at Lawrence is an honor.”
“The energy we generate in the room is palpable, and the athletes thrive from their shared excitement for competing and honing their skills.”
